Coming off a 4-8 season, Belichick’s first year at the helm of the school’s football program was a disappointment for all involved. The coach, who pulls down $10 million a year at the school, was beset by on- and off-the-field drama last season involving players’ allegations that the program was “an unstructured mess,” with a “toxic environment,” and distractions related to his relationship with 25-year-old girlfriend Jordon Hudson.Midway through the middling season, Belichick even addressed rumors that he was taking a buyout.
“I’m fully committed to the UNC Football program we’re building here,” Belichick, 73, said in a statement on Wednesday, Oct. 8.UNC hopes not to run it back this season, but they’ll have to start by facing the team that dashed the Tar Heels’ hopes in the very first game.UNC plays TCU — who thrashed them 48-14 last season — in Ireland for the kickoff of the 2026-27 season on August 29.
