Billy Bob Thornton explained the story behind his eclectic ensemble while being interviewed on CBS Mornings
Different bits of Thornton's outfit came from London, Tennessee and Colorado, he said — and from multiple different decades
"Anything that I have, that costs any money, somebody else gave it to me," Thornton said. "I just don't spend money"
Billy Bob Thornton knows what's flattering on him!
The Landman actor, 70, appeared on CBS Mornings on Tuesday, Jan. 20 and gave hosts a rundown on his outfit: an eclectic black and gray ensemble with red accents, full of pieces with unique tales behind them.
His shoes, he shared, are his "tire tread" boots from Colorado, which he first bought in 1996. The sturdy black shoe features laces and leather, but most notably, the footprint leaves behind a pattern very similar to tires. Thus, he shared, these boots are great for snowy, slippery weather.

The deep black coat Thornton wore was bought for him by one of his "lovely" publicists on a trip to London because he had forgotten to bring one himself. "Anything that I have, that costs any money, somebody else gave it to me," Thornton added. "I just don't spend money."
Thornton's "hat deal" was comprised of a bright red wide brim fedora, worn on top of a gray beanie, pulled down to his eyebrows. The fedora came from Lansky's in Memphis, Tenn. — yes, the one where Elvis Presley and Jerry Lee used to frequent, he clarified — and Thornton's been shopping there since 1975.
The beanie was a gift from a rock-and-roll guitarist named DJ Ashba, who makes the hats themselves, the actor said. "And I put it on, but they don't work by themselves. You look like a pinhead if you wear it by itself," Thornton admitted. "So I thought, what if I put this [red had] on top?"

His jeans, in particular, are in line with his longtime preference for the silhouettes in the women's section, he said. "I wear women's size 6 Levis," Thornton revealed, resting a hand on the washed black jeans.
Thornton first disclosed his affinity for women's jeans in a November 2024 appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show, and explained those styles offer the slimmer fit he's after. During the conversation, Thornton also wore a pair of women's size 6 Levi's jeans.
“The reason I don't like to wear men's jeans is because they're all too baggy," the actor said. "I've got bird legs and it just feels like I'm in a tent. I like a nice fit and they fit great with boots."
