Bobby Flay credits girlfriend Brooke Williamson for teaching him to cook with "lots of" Asian ingredients
The couple recently celebrated their first anniversary with a trip to Tokyo, planned by Williamson
Flay says fans are often curious about his relationship with Williamson during his Instagram Q&A sessions
Bobby Flay is sharing what he’s learned about cooking from girlfriend Brooke Williamson.
While answering questions about Beat Bobby Flay on Instagram, the celebrity chef was asked, “Is there something that you learned from Brooke that you have used in BBF?”
“I love @chefbrookew’s cooking,” he replied. “She taught me how to cook with lots of Asian ingredients.”
Flay, 61, opened up more on the topic during the latest episode of his podcast Bobby on the Beat, released April 6.
The couple talked about their recent trip to Tokyo, which Flay said was Williamson’s idea.
“It was certainly our trip, but it was something that you really, really wanted to do,” Flay told Williamson, 47.

“I had been to Tokyo once, probably 2000 or 2001, when I did the rematch of Iron Chef, the original Iron Chef, against [Masaharu] Morimoto. First American chef to go there and do that. But I hadn't been there for 25 years. You have this great sensibility for Asian ingredients. You love that kind of food. You like cooking that food as well. So, you're like, ‘Can we please go to Tokyo?’”

Williamson then reflected on her reasons for choosing the Japanese city as their vacation spot.
“Well, part of the reason I wanted to go to Tokyo was because you hadn't been there in 25 years,” she told Flay. “There are so many places that you've been that I haven't, and that you show me and know the ropes to. And I felt like this was one place where you kind of really hadn't seen the city.”
She continued, “I've been a couple of times, not in a while, but I felt like I wanted to experience something with you for the first time and have it be kind of your first time, too.”

In February, Williamson and Flay told PEOPLE that they’d be celebrating their first anniversary with the trip to Japan. Flay said Williamson was taking the lead on their travel plans.
“She's doing them all, because I'm not a Tokyo expert by any means,” he said. “Brooke is so focused in on where we're eating, where we're going. So if you have any questions about what we're doing, you need to call her.”
The two Food Network stars began dating in March 2025, and Flay noted that he’s frequently asked about his girlfriend of a year during his Instagram Q&A sessions.
“I think probably the most popular ones are when people ask me about Brooke and cooking and stuff like that, because for some reason, people are interested in my love life,” he said while chatting with PEOPLE at the 2026 South Beach Wine & Food Festival (SOBEWFF). "“I'm not really sure why, but they are. So have at it."
