Actor George Clooney and his wife, Amal, have evacuated their home in Brignoles, France, as wildfires have swept across southern Europe. The couple and their 9-year-old twins, Alexander and Ella, live in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region of southeastern France. Their family home is in one of many areas impacted by the blazes spreading across France, Spain, Italy, and Greece.
Couple Announces Their Evacuation in a Letter to the Mayor
A representative for George Clooney informed that the couple has announced their departure in a personal letter written directly to the mayor of Brignoles.
“Dear Didier, At this point we have no idea whether our beautiful home makes it through this terrible moment,” the letter began.
“As we evacuate Brignoles, we want to emphasize 2 things: first we hope you and the people of our city are safe and second that Amal and I are committed to making sure that whatever happens to our village, we are part of this community and we’ll be part of making it whole. We love Brignoles and our friends who live there,” the letter continued.
According to the latest reports, the wildfires in France have grown massively and have scorched the land four times the size of Paris. Around 224,000 residents in France’s Gironde region and another 3,000 in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region have been evacuated.
Moreover, across the border in Spain, more than 63,150 people have been forced to flee, while fires in Greece have tragically killed two firefighters, per People.
George Clooney Reveals Why He Chose to Move to France
George and Amal, the popular couple, usually keep their life very personal. However, during an interview with Esquire in 2025, the actor opened up about why chose a quiet farm in France as their primary family residence. While Clooney owns an estate in England, a villa on Lake Como in Italy, and a home near his family in Kentucky, he wants to raise his children on French soil.

“A good portion of my life growing up was on a farm, and as a kid, I hated the whole idea of it. But now, for them, it’s like—they’re not on their iPads, you know? They have dinner with grown-ups and have to take their dishes in. They have a much better life,” he revealed.
Moreover, the actor also admitted that he was deeply concerned about raising his twins in Hollywood.
“I felt like they were never going to get a fair shake at life,” he said. “France — they kind of don’t give a s— about fame. I don’t want them to be walking around worried about paparazzi. I don’t want them being compared to somebody else’s famous kids.”
In a February 2025 conversation with The New York Times, Clooney also shared how ironic it felt to settle on a farm as an adult.
“Growing up in Kentucky, all I wanted to do was get away from a farm, get away from that life. Now I find myself back in that life. I drive a tractor and all those things. It’s the best chance at a normal life,” he shared.
