The Food Network star said he had just fired her friend, whom Lori accompanied to pick up her final paycheck
Guy was "mesmerized" by Lori and remembers saying, "I'm gonna marry that girl"
Guy Fieri is recalling the unexpected way he met wife Lori.
During an appearance on the podcast In Depth with Graham Bensinger released Monday, Dec. 15, the celebrity chef said their first encounter came when he was two years out of college and managing Parkers’ Lighthouse, a Los Angeles restaurant.
“I had fired her friend,” he said. “And the rule was, when you’re fired, you couldn’t come in the restaurant for 30 days.”
It was a Friday night at the eatery, when the employee he had let go walked in.
“She's like, ‘I'm going upstairs.’ I'm like, ‘No, no, you can't come in here. You've been fired.’ She says, ‘Well, I'm here to get my check then.' I go, ‘Okay, I'll get your check,’” Guy remembered.

That was when Guy first spotted his future wife.
“Well, standing behind her is this little blonde girl with these just beautiful blue eyes. And she's just mean-mugging me. She's just doing this look,” he said.
The Food Network star then told the pair they could sit at the downstairs bar while he retrieved the check.
“They're having a drink. And I go stand under the stairs, and I'm looking at this girl, and I'm just mesmerized by this girl. What the f---?” he recalled.
“So I'm standing there, and the roommate of the girl that I had fired, a girl named Kelly, comes up and goes, ‘What's going on?’ And I said, ‘Who's the girl with what's her name?’
The roommate replied that the stranger was their friend Lori, who was moving to San Diego from Rhode Island.
“I said, ‘I'm gonna marry that girl.’ And she smacks me, and she goes, ‘You have a girlfriend,’” Guy went on.

“And I'm like, ‘I'm just telling you, I'm gonna marry that girl,’” Guy insisted.
The rest, of course, is history. The couple went on to tie the knot in 1995 and welcomed two sons: Hunter, 29, and Ryder, 29.
The Fieri family further expanded this year, when Hunter married Tara Berstein.
Bernstein shared what the celebrity chef is like as a father-in-law while chatting with PEOPLE ahead of their Aug. 30 wedding.
“There's just so many different fun versions of him, and we always have a blast all together as a family,” she said, describing the Guy’s Grocery Games host as “super big on being family-oriented.”
Bernstein noted that Guy’s focus on spending holidays together and “bringing everyone back to the roots” is similar to that of her own parents.
“Everyone has crazy busy lives, but it's so important to just spend that quality time,” she added. “So it's been really fun.”
