Jack Black is remembering the hilarious *Saturday Night Live *sketch* *that Amy Poehler wrote especially for him that sadly never made it to air. **

The *Anaconda* actor, who has hosted the late-night sketch comedy show four times, opened up about the creative process behind a cut sketch called "Boys Night Out" on Tuesday’s episode of* Late Night With Seth Meyers*. **

“You’re one of those hosts that achieves something that I think is the hardest thing to achieve,” Seth Meyers told Black. “You had a sketch that did not air that is still incredibly beloved among my cohort from that era, which was written by Amy Poehler and Emily Spivey [called] ‘Boys Night Out.’”

The host went on to explain that "Boys Night Out," as its title implies, followed “a guy who was very excited because his wife was going out for the day and he was gonna have a boys night out” with his friends. **

“I pitched it to Amy, and Amy wrote it up for me,” Black said. “Bespoke for me. And it was just a little song. I was like, ‘I think it would be really fun to come out and sing a song.’”

He then proceeded to sing its hook: “‘Boys night out / Boys night out / Now we’re really rockin’ / And the chicks are all a-squawkin’ / ‘Cause we’re talking ‘bout a boys night out!’” **

While the song performed well with the* Late Night* audience, who all cheered and applauded, the same couldn’t be said for the *SNL* crowd during dress rehearsal. “[Poehler] wrote it, God bless her,” Black said. “And I thought it was funny, but then, yeah, in the dress, it really took a dump-ski. And it was like… it’s out.”**

Black wasn’t hurt by its omission. “I agreed with Lorne [Michaels],” he said. “I was like, ‘No, yeah, don’t, let’s not do it.’”

Meyers noted, however, that it was extremely impressive to watch Black try to sell the sketch anyway. “I will say, like, it took a dump-ski and you never took your foot off the gas,” he said. “We all knew it wasn’t going to go to air, and we’re like, ‘Look at Jack, trying his hardest.’”

To which Black quipped back, “I’ve only got one gear! As anyone who knows me knows, I go all the way.”

Black previously discussed the lost sketch while visiting Poehler’s *Good Hang* podcast in April, where she shared more plot details. **

“Emily Spivey and I wrote a sketch called ‘Boys Night Out’ and it was Jack waiting for the boys to arrive and they never showed up,” she said. “He just kept ordering more wings.”
