Jimmy Kimmel is calling out Donald Trump over his “hateful and vile” remarks following the deaths of Rob and Michele Reiner.

The late-night host blasted Trump’s response to multiple tragedies that occurred over the weekend, including the Reiners’ deaths, the terror attack at Bondi Beach, and the mass shooting at Brown University.

“What we need in a time like this — besides common sense when it comes to guns and mental healthcare — is compassion and leadership. We did not get that from our president, because he has none of it to give,” Kimmel said in his opening monologue on Monday. “Instead, we got a fool rambling about nonsense, we got a brief moment of respect for our friends in Australia, we got a brief moment of condolence, followed by a 'things happen' for the students at Brown. And for Rob and Michele Reiner, we got this post.”

Kimmel proceeded to read Trump’s lengthy Truth Social post about the death of the Reiners, wherein the president claimed that Rob died due to having a fictional disease called “Trump Derangement Syndrome.”

“Just when you think he can’t go any lower, he somehow finds a way to do that,” Kimmel said. “His description of what happened, of course, is not at all what happened. This is exactly what I spoke about before, this rush to pin the tail on the donkey in pursuit of the Trump-friendly narrative — not to mention blaming his death on the fact that he is an outspoken liberal.”

Kimmel appears to be referencing the comment he made in the wake of Charlie Kirk’s assassination, which resulted in him briefly being suspended from ABC and preempted by multiple ABC local affiliates in September.

He continued, “Insulting someone who’s just been murdered, who leaves children behind without having any idea of what actually happened… it’s so hateful and vile.”

Kimmel explained that when his wife, Molly McNearney, first showed him Trump’s response to Reiner’s death, he thought it was fake. “Even for him, that seemed like too much,” he said, “but nothing is ever too much for him.“

Trump’s remark was met with swift condemnation from celebrities and politicians alike. Still, he continued to bash Reiner and his family during a White House press conference on Monday, calling the director a “deranged person” and “very bad for our country.”

“That corroded brain is in charge of our lives,” Kimmel said after the clip ended. “If you voted for that, it’s ok to reconsider. It’s perfectly fine.”

He added, “And I will say, I know from my personal interactions with Rob Reiner that he would want us to keep pointing out the loathsome atrocities that continue to ooze out of this sick and irresponsible man’s mouth. And so we’re gonna do that over and over again until the rest of us wake up.“

Kimmel wasn’t the only late-night host who paid tribute to Reiner. Seth Meyers remembered some of his fondest memories with Reiner and rebuked Trump’s comments.

“Rob was no fan of the president, and because of that, the president was no fan of Rob’s,” he said. “Just about 12 hours after Rob and Michele had been murdered in their own home, he wanted to take the opportunity to go on social media and post his thoughts about this tragedy. I feared this was something he was going to do, and I was pretty certain that it would cast a shadow on what was already a really dark day, but it was even worse than I could have imagined.”

Jimmy Fallon remembered the *Princess Bride* director as a “friend and entertainment legend,” calling him “one of the smartest and funniest people I’ve ever met.”

“Thank you for all the great work on and off screen and continuing to be an inspiration to me and millions of people around the world. In the end, I’m gonna remember all of the laughs that you’ve given us.”

And Colbert kept his message short and sweet in the wake of the tragedy.

“Other people’s tragedy is sacred ground, and we try not to walk there,” he said. “But we are going to do a comedy show tonight, in light of — and in spite of — the darkness.”**
