The Baltimore Ravens have released former Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia prior to the start of NFL training camp.
Pavia, who was the runner-up for the 2025 Heisman Trophy and led Vanderbilt to a 10-win season, went undrafted in the 2026 NFL Draft but signed with the Ravens shortly after the draft as a priority free agent.
In being released, Pavia will have the opportunity to sign with another NFL team prior to the start of training camp.
Diego Pavia released: What to know
Pavia was a two-year starter for Vanderbilt, taking the program to new heights in his breakout 2025 season as well as an upset over Alabama in 2024. Despite his notoriety and success as a college player, his 5-foot-10 frame and perceived lack of arm talent pushed him out of the NFL draft entirely.
The Ravens scooped Pavia up as an undrafted free agent, but one who joined an experienced quarterback room that features two-time MVP Lamar Jackson as well as veteran backups Tyler Huntley and Skylar Thompson. The Ravens also added a second undrafted free agent quarterback this offseason in UConn's Joe Fagnano, forcing a difficult situation for division of reps in preseason practices.
Diego Pavia stats: How good was Vanderbilt quarterback?
Across two seasons at Vanderbilt, Pavia threw 49 touchdowns and ran for 18 more. He threw for 5,832 yards and led the Commodores to 17 wins, including a 10-3 season in 2025.

Pavia set the Vanderbilt single-season records for passing yards (3,539) and passing touchdowns (29) in 2025, and he holds the Vanderbilt single-game records for passing yards and passing touchdowns as well. Only Kyle Shurmur and Jay Cutler have thrown more touchdowns in a Vanderbilt uniform than Pavia.
Will Diego Pavia sign with another NFL team?
NFL teams are beginning to report for training camp this week, with the Carolina Panthers beginning training camp practices as early as July 23 ahead of the Hall of Fame preseason game. It is customary for NFL teams to carry three or four quarterbacks throughout training camp and to allow the backup quarterbacks opportunities to develop during preseason games.
The turnaround will be tough for Pavia to find a team, especially since reps and playbook installation took place in the spring for other teams while Pavia was learning Baltimore's offense. But he will be able to sign with another team if he finds an interested party.
The earliest non-HOF Game preseason games begin the weekend of Aug. 13-15.
