Alec Baldwin is putting family first.

The actor opened up about the tragic "Rust" shooting, saying he's no longer as interested in acting.

"Because of the situation in New Mexico, which was very painful, I wound up staying home a lot," Baldwin said on the Monday, April 13, episode of The Hollywood Reporter's "Awards Chatter" podcast. "I was home with my kids for three-and-a-half years. I hardly worked at all, and that's just changing now."

A gun Alec Baldwin, 68, was holding on the New Mexico movie set went off in 2021, killing cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. The movie armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, now 29, and Baldwin were both charged in the shooting. The former was found guilty and sentenced to 18 months in prison in April 2024. She was released last May.

The latter's involuntary manslaughter case was abruptly dismissed in July 2024 due to allegations that prosecutors and law enforcement withheld evidence. Baldwin sued New Mexico law enforcement and public officials for their handling of the case, but that lawsuit was dismissed in July.

Since Hutchins' death, Baldwin has continued appearing in films and TV, though in low-budget or independent projects that were often small roles, cameos a la "Saturday Night Live" or projects already underway around the time of the shooting. The "30 Rock" actor also has several upcoming minor-role projects, including the crime thriller "Kockroach" starring Chris Hemsworth, Zazie Beetz and Channing Tatum.

"I'm going to go off and do a bunch of things. But I was home, and I got used to it, and I don't want to leave my house anymore," he said of acting. "I don't. I don't want to work anymore, I really don't. I want to retire and stay home with my kids."

A TLC reality show following Baldwin, his wife Hilaria and their seven children premiered in February 2025. A second season of "The Baldwins" has yet to be announced.
