Roughly two weeks after setting the internet abuzz with images of a bong-shaped popcorn bucket, the "Scary Movie" marketing team is at it once again.
Right as the internet was set alight after "Scary Movie" social media accounts shared images of a weed-themed snack holder (yes, literally just a bong with a "bowl" full of butter), those hopes quickly went up in smoke once USA TODAY confirmed that the products were promotional and would not be sold in theaters for the sixth installment of the horror-parody franchise.
The film's official Instagram account again got fans in a tizzy on June 3, when they shared Discussing Film's Instagram post, claiming to show the true bucket: a "retro" or "old-school" cordless phone filled with popcorn and adorned with a giant red "WAZZUP!" Complete with glow-in-the-dark buttons and an antenna, the prop certainly seemed less likely to get its owner in legal trouble.
Unfortunately, we're here to burst the bubble (or smoke cloud) a second time. The phone popcorn bucket, like the bong before it, will not be at your local premiere.

Sorry to be the bearers of bad news, but it's true: The "Scary Movie" marketing team duped the internet twice in the lead-up to the June 5 release. Not only was the bong bucket for marketing purposes, according to Paramount, but the retro phone was too.
"The phone popcorn buckets were created exclusively for promotional purposes, fan giveaways, and special marketing activations celebrating the return of the franchise's iconic comedy," Paramount told USA TODAY in an emailed statement on Thursday, June 4.

They, like the bong buckets, will not be sold in theaters.
So, what 'Scary Movie' merch CAN you buy at theaters?

In the United States, fans will be able to enjoy the movie with a themed drink cup in hand, but only at AMC Theatres. The plastic cups, adorned with a smiling Ghost Face, "Scary Movie" in bold lettering and blood-red detailing, come with a large drink.
Prices will vary based on your local AMC locations. The good news? They're already available for purchase beginning on Thursday, June 4. The bad news? There are no specialty popcorn buckets for this specific release in the United States.
Outside the United States, some international markets are getting a popcorn holder, but it's no bong-bucket. The simple black-and-red tin is shaped decisively less like drug paraphernalia and more like a regular snack receptacle, featuring Ghost Face with his tongue sticking out and "Scary Movie" branding. The tins will be available in France, Germany and Australia.

Clearly, the promotional popcorn stunts were effective marketing, inspiring fans to flock to comment sections and discussion threads to find out what was fact and what was fiction. It may have been a little too effective, even, as comments beneath social media posts advertising the real cups are more "where is my bong!?" than "can't wait to buy this cup!"
"Scary Movie" will hit theaters on Friday, June 5.
